Hi Ben, We see the two options as working together. In fact, we really like that attendees can choose “talks” because a number of our guests would be interested in a pick and mix style of learning just the things they want to learn. However, because we also offer events which are more of a “conference” style, we’d like to be able to offer the ability to attend just day 1 or day 2 etc. Most conferences that we know of/attend ourselves have this option. I am not sure that your suggestion of pre-selecting talks at checkout is what we are looking for though. Currently, we are not showing talks at check out because most of our guests would typically choose to attend in multiples of days (i.e., day 1, day 1 and 3, first 3 days) or the entire event. As mentioned, your current option of creating tickets which allow X number of talks is good for us too because the guest can look through our talks pages, then purchase say a 1- or 5-talk pass and select the preferred talks post-checkout. So, the TLDR would be that we’d love to have the ticketing options of entire event, limit by category, limit by number of talks AND choose which days to attend if that were possible! Hope this makes sense!
Thanks Cynthia, really appreciate the follow-up. If I'm reading things correctly, it seems like it's less to do with choosing individual talks based on days and more about restricting access at the ticket level itself. In that case, what we'd typically recommend for this scenario is to simply create a ticket or a number of tickets that are restricted to individual days. For example, you could have a day one ticket, a day two ticket, a day three ticket, etc. Attendees would then have the ability to choose which days they want to access, and they could choose one of them or multiple of them depending on the combination of days that they wish to attend. So just to clarify, this is a functionality that we already support at the ticket level and is what we typically recommend for the scenario that you've outlined. Hope this helps, but of course if you feel I've missed anything, do let me know.
Hi Ben, Well, yes I did mention in my first post that “We can currently limit tickets to specific days. However, it would be useful if we can allow the attendee to select which days they wish to attend.” The point is that for the current 6 day event that I am working on, I would need to create 6 separate tickets, allowing for a ticket per day and, even then, there is no possibility of a combo ticket such as attendee wants to attend say day 1 and 3. I would need to add additional tickets for this option. The checkout would be rather messy as a result, let alone the additional work required to produce this outcome. That is why we were suggesting the ability to be able to purchase access to a “days” category and then to choose which out of the available days the attendee wishes to attend. I can see that this might not be easy to add overnight to the current system, but do feel it would be a worthwhile future consideration :)
Sorry, yes you're quite right Cynthia. This is slightly different from what I was describing in my latest reply. That being said, it's not an entirely straightforward thing to implement from our end, and since we do already cover partially what you're talking about by virtue of being able to create tickets that are restricted to individual days, I think we'll leave that for now. We'll keep this ticket open in case we see an increase of interest in it from the wider community. Thanks again for raising it, really do appreciate you sharing your use case with us.
Hi Cynthia, Thanks for sharing this suggestion. I think this is a nice idea, though we need to consider how this would fit into the checkout flow, given that we already allow attendees to choose individual talks. Are you thinking this would replace their ability to select talks, and instead they would simply choose days at a high level (i.e., just choose day one and two), versus choosing individual talks from each of those days? Or do you see those two working together somehow? One way to tackle this is to update the existing talk selection step in the checkout to include a filter by day, this would allow us to pre-select talks from the days they select as a quick way of selecting talks. I.e. attendee selects day 1 and 2 and by doing that we pre-select all talks from those days. Could that work, or do you see this as providing a different function from the content selection step in the checkout?
